KUWAIT CITY(IAMINKUWAIT):   Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Hussam Al-Roumi stressed Thursday the importance of consolidating Gulf identity and joint cooperation in order to counter challenges and fi nd best ways to attain further achievements and development for Gulf people.

Al-Roumi made his remarks in a speech at the opening of the 21st meeting of GCC ministers of municipal affairs, in presence of Secretary- General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdulatif Al-Zayani.

“Current circumstances and challenges, by which we live day after day, make us more determined and persistent to attain our hopes and exert all efforts toward achieving progress and prosperity for our countries and societies,” said Al-Roumi.

The meeting is part of GCC cooperation and a completion of its historic march, which embodies the spirit of cooperation among member-states and aims to preserve their supreme interests, development, and prosperity, said the minister.

Throughout the past four decades, the GCC joint action has attained several achievements, he noted, adding the roadmap still indicates there is a long way to go to attain all aspirations and ambitions of Gulf leaderships and people.

Furthermore, Al-Roumi thanked Saudi Arabia for its efforts and sponsorship of the previous meeting in Riyadh, hoping the current meeting achieves the desired goals.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Municipality won the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) award for municipal work award on Al-Mubarakiya market project, presented by GCC’s General Secretariat on Thursday.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdullatif Al-Zayani honored Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipality Affairs Hussam Al-Roumi and Kuwait Municipality’s Director General Ahmad Al-Manfoohi on the occasion.

In the meantime, Oman’s AlBuraimi Governorate came second, the UAE’s Sharjah came third, Saudi’s Development of Madinah Authority seized the fourth place and Saudi’s Asir Region came fi fth.
